WHAT TO EXPECT-
Your local shopping expert will meet you at your hotel in Delhi, discuss your interests, and then take you on a full-day excursion to the city’s shops and markets that best suit your needs. You’ll quickly see what a great shopping destination this is!
Connaught Place has been one of Delhi’s most popular shopping venues since 1931. Most anything you need is available here, and there are several eateries as well. State emporia buildings are found in this area, as are the head offices of the major banks and airlines. This is a place that you really shouldn’t miss, at least for its architecture and the bustle of daily life.
You’ll travel along Janpath, which is one of New Delhi’s busiest roads. You’ll find the Tourism Department’s offices here. As the road heads south you’ll come to Rajpath with the Gate of India to the east and Parliament House to the west. The poshest area of New Delhi is a bit farther south and the Diplomatic Enclave of Chanakyapuri is not far away.
Chandni Chowk was built in the 19th century by the Mughal Emperor Shahajahan and it was inhabited by the well-to-do families of the time. Today it is one of the country’s best known wholesale markets for textiles, electronic goods, and watches.
The Dilli Haat Food and Crafts Bazaar is a one-stop shopping place for tourists, offering not only various arts and handicrafts from throughout India, but also a taste of the country’s ethnic cuisines. Visitors can also experience a variety of performing arts.
